The Need for Dry Processing and Bulk Solids Handling
The dry processing and bulk solids handling industry is being pushed by immense and formidable social and economic forces, primarily a global pandemic, that may have forever changed how we interact and work.
The pandemic has revealed the critical need for the dry processing and bulk solids handling sector to implement more advanced manufacturing technologies. The spikes in demand for critical goods, has sparked renewed interest in reshoring supply chains and is driving increased spending on capital equipment in the sector. Automation, advanced modeling and simulation, as well as human augmentation technologies is enabling stronger, more agile powder and bulk solids supply chains for the items we use every day.
Mixing and blending is one of the most vital process steps in a number of industrial applications. It is astonishing how many bulk materials undergo mixing and blending operations to achieve homogeneity at a required quality level, whether the material is raw, and intermediate, or the final product.
If your business requires new blending systems to meet demand or just to replace aging equipment, METO Systems has a variety of blending systems to accommodate your dry processing and bulk solid handling needs. Here are the types of blenders we have to offer.
Lab Scale Blenders
Lab scale blenders are used most often by pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries. METO Systems. METO Systems’ stainless-steel lab scale blender mimics the full-size blender but sized for up to 5cuft. containers. The unit has a fixed height and will blend round or square containers. The base is fitted with full locking swivel casters and floor leveling locks to allow safe blending.
Column Blenders
Designed to receive, lock, lift, and blend an IBC, the column blender allows a homogeneous blend of multiple ingredients without the worry of segregation and cross contamination by eliminating the need to transfer material to and from other machines.
Our Small Stationary Column Blender supplies blending systems for use with containers
up to 0.5 cubic meters in capacity. where as our Production Stationary Column Blender supplies a full-sized IBC blending system for use with containers up to 1.5 cubic meters in capacity.
Theses blenders are floor mounted, with either top or side support. They can blend product in round or square containers using a 1 to 20 rpm drive.
The Small Stationary Column Blender can be used with multi-sized portable containers, all at the same foot print and relative dimensions regardless of volume. 304 stainless steel construction, two (2) parallel lifting arms that locate and lock the IBC in place during blending. The unit is supplied with a ground level laser scanner to ensure operating area is clear for use.
The Production Stationary Column Blender can be supplied to mate with existing bins. Height and reach are as required by application. Fail safe lift mechanisms hold the platform in position without drift even when utilities are lost. Rotational column option provides for precise positioning.
Drum Blenders
Drum tumbling is a common way to keep ingredients in liquid suspension and to break up powder clumps prior to discharge. It’s also a standard way to simply mix ingredients.
METO Systems’ sanitary drum tumblers work for all three activities, but they differ from more common drum rollers in that they rotate the drum end over end instead of spinning about the center axis. This ensures a more robust agitation action inside the drum and eliminates the need to position it on its side.
Bin Blenders
Bin Blenders also referred to as an IBC Blender or Pharmaceutical Blender or Pharmaceutical Powder Blender, is a kind of mechanically, optically, and electrically integrated equipment that adopts PLC control technology and variable frequency control technology. A Bin Blender can automatically complete all actions of the mixing hopper including clamping, lifting, mixing, and lowering.
All of our blending equipment prevent product exposure, cross-contamination, and product loss, making them ideal for high-potency materials. They also minimize space requirements in your facility because they can blend, lift and position right onto a lift column. This allows the product to be blended and discharged directly to the next stage of the process without the need for additional handling. Plus, our fail-safe lift mechanisms hold the platform in place even in the event of a power loss.
The advantage can be leveraged even further by blending, lifting and positioning on a lift column. The product is blended and discharged directly to the next stage of processing without the need for further handling. The same can be done using drums and other types of product containers.
In conclusion, our equipment is designed for a lifetime of reliable service. It is robust, value-engineered, and delivered as a complete system with little to no need for on-site assembly. Our engineering and service departments are available to provide systems support and advice on upgrades or maintenance and don’t forget our parts department for all spares requests.
